I guess I am assuming that the Ukrainians will put up a protracted fight and sabotage whatever they can. The generation that was under soviet occupation is gone. The current generation may put up more of a fight. And the US will likely provide them with weapons as they did with the Afghans. Even if Ukraine surrenders, there may well be soldiers and civilians who will keep fighting. They may bomb the gas pipeline or whatever else they can.

This is a possibility that not many have considered. Of course, maybe Putin knows the Ukrainians better and has a good post invasion plan. Or maybe the Ukrainians have too much to loose and won't put up a fight. We'll have to wait and see.

There was too much invasion premium in the market before. At some point in time there will be too little.

< If Kyiv falls, the situation is pretty much over.>. No. Russia has enough military power to overrun Ukraine. They do not have the power to hold it. This will become a vicious dirty insurgency, with atrocities committed by both sides.

When Russia invaded Afghanistan, they captured the major cities in a few days. Then, Russians died for 10 years, trying to “pacify” that country. Then they left. That is what will happen in Ukraine. This is only the beginning.

Grain does not get harvested in a war zone. The nations who feed their people with imported grain, will pay higher prices (if they can) or starve.
