There is no strategic benefit for China to move now vs 5 or 10 years from now. Sure, we're busy w/Ukraine, but I don't think that's enough leverage. Putin waited till the world desperately needed both his oil and nat gas. I think China needs delever away from real estate and infrastructure as a primary means of stimulating growth and turn more towards internal consumption. They're going that route, but as Japan found out the hang over may last a while. I think the odds of China doing something stupid like Putin are very low here, but they certainly can afford to be aggressive in their stance.
