The SUV craze got legs long after auto analysts said it would be over because so many Americans got so obese they needed cranes to lift them in and out of lower slung cars.

If you're bigger than a compact car that gets 50MPG, you're not going to buy one unless you're body is made of liquid metal like the 2nd Terminator.

Consumers, yes. Politicians, yes. But not everyone. Oil execs have long memories, and can do accurate cost/benefit equations. After BP does a 25b$ write-off, how long will it be, before any oil company is willing to try investing in Russia again? 20 years? 30?
