The REALITY/ACCURACY of Popularity Polls of Life-time Dictators

I believe if one were to try to conduct a poll of Kim Jong un's popularity with the North Korean people, even if it were done conscientiously, in good faith, by the NY Times, or anyone else, you would get a favorability rating of 95% or higher.

It would have been the same with Ceausescu of Romania or Turkey's Erdogan today.

If an American in the 1930s were to watch one Leni Riefenstahl's propaganda films, that person would be hard put to believe there were any who dissented from Nazi rule.

When it comes to the popularity of a dictator, I believe the best indicator is evidence - if there is any - of spontaneous dissent.

It can be the case, and maybe this is what you were thinking of, that some dictators - at certain points in time - are genuinely popular. Mussolini, for instance, was not violently vindictive. Only one political opponent, Giamotto Matteotti, is definitely known to have been murdered by the dictator. Singapore's Lee Kuan, also tended to use a velvet glove....but you could still be financially ruined if you criticized him.

You have your opinion .....I have another. It is that simple.

I truly did not mean any disrespect.
