It's not a matter of just or only picking stocks that are better than any other stocks. It's a matter of constructing and maintaining a portfolio. At least I assume that for those of us here who are established in life, and been on this thread for these many years.

So maybe UAN is better than anything else anyone wants to bet on. We/those of us, are NOT going full-out with the Kelly Criteria. No matter how safe or how good UAN appears to be, I assume we will not bet our portfolio only on this stock, and we will continue to diversify among other stocks/bonds/etc. to try to protect portfolios that have been built up over a long time period.

So I assume that for those of us who are in with UAN, the argument that it's better than anything else, is meaningless for further decision-making in deploying cash. Future stock buys are considered in light of safety of the portfolio. Thus for example in my case, I've got UAN, enough I believe, and any further stocks I am buying will be of other stocks among sectors where I believe it's beneficial for diversification/safety/performance.

"If someone has decided ABC is a good pick, they should be able to make the case that it is better than XYZ"

I don't agree at all.

My overarching goal is to get people to post stocks they buy that they believe might be of interest to people here. As moderator, I don't want people to feel they have to be prepared to defend their decision, other than maybe in a general sense. (As did you consider the implications of Russian blockade in that ABC decision?, for example)

It shouldn't be that I buy ABC and somebody says why is it better than XYZ? And now the monkey is on my back to defend my purchase against XYZ, a stock I may know nothing about.
I'd like to see it the other way 'round. I buy ABC, and somebody comments that XYZ is a better stock and here are reasons for that. An example just below, where I said I bought VLKAY and Speckulatius gave his reason that POAHY is a better bet.
