That’s what the Finns did to the Soviets back in 1939. They conducted a careful, slow position war - would cut great trees strategically, to interfere with troop movements… used large numbers of snipers, who were going primarily after the officers. Eventually, “technically”, the Soviets won, and even gained some territory… but at such an enormous cost that it’s generally seen as a defeat.
