" Lawyers are professional liars and whores." You know people say that without thinking. But I've known lawyers that worked on the Innocence Project- freeing people from jail who were innocent. I've had friends who worked in Legal Aid. And I've even hired lawyers- very nice ones- who helped me through the tortuous windings of estate law. So while some lawyers may be complete shitheads, a lot of them aren't. And they can be damn useful to ordinary men and women who want to redress a wrong or plan their lives safely.
