Too often we don't see the forest for the trees.

Democracy and the rule of law are what gave us the freedom and modern ethical world we live in today.

We must have lawyers to keep and upgrade the rule of law, as we evolve and become wiser e.g. laws have evolved to be much more humanitarian over the decades e.g. women's right to vote, ending segregation, etc.

Without lawyers who would interpret the law so it is consistent and moral!!??

I have told others the same
There are plenty of noble lawyers doing incredible work such as what you mentioned. I thought of volunteering for the Innocence Project after seeing firsthand how dirty the system is and how easy it is to get railroaded by corruption.

PI attorneys are the little guys' best friends.

But majority get into law for money. It doesn't take much to be a lawyer. Most have overinflated egos and thin skin.

I have personally dealt with hundreds in varying capacities(much involving estate and legal malpractice law) and have read thousands of opinions and disciplinary reports. Most are despicable, lie more than tell the truth, and lack skills beyond running up bills

Signing a retainer agreement is like getting married. Easy to get in, filled with promises, but difficult and expensive to get out of when things aren't working as expected. They know it and abuse to no end

Personally, I don't want to deal with a lawyer again, unless I get rear ended by Bill Gates.
