I am a bit out of my element here and was hoping that somebody more in tune to Silicon Valley could help me out.

The recent patent purchases and revenue sharing agreements with S3 intrigue me. I stumbled over to the S3 thread and find that they have been doing this with a number of other companies in what appears to be an effort to position themselves to either compete or litigate against Intel (this is subject to interpretation but I got this from an article at News.Com). We've been speculating on mergers/spin-offs for a while and I don't mean to bring that back up but it seems that these recent exchanges achieve the same goals. Of course Intel may find it much more expedient to simply purchase S3 lock, stock and barrel but who knows.

My question is how this relates back to CRUS? How many years of R&D spending were just sold for $40MM and the prospect of future revenues from products other companies produce? Was this a good move on their part - in the vein of focusing on their profitable core businesses?

For disclosure I should say that I've been buying CRUS at around the $10 level and continue to hold.
