That is simply saying, "Hey, we have common interests here, and are willing to get involved but only if you reimburse some our costs." That is not only acceptable but preferable to the alternative of using our military as we do, e.g., with respect to NATO operations or our positions against DPRK and the rest. My comment was really relating to the unproved claim that Trump said we should operate the military as a profit center, which is different from what you're alleging here.
