Ukraine is a very poor, disastrously corrupt country. Their GDP is $3100 per capita for 2021 - compared to Russia’s also very low $11 K. That’s why Crimea was so happy to jump ship. Ukraine had great natural resources, a decent climate. The reason they’re in such a crapper are their ruling classes. Very unfortunate country. One of the reasons the Maidan coup was successful is that millions of people wanted the country to become a member of the EU - which would allow them to move to any other country in Europe. They would be better off focusing on fighting corruption, developing a law abiding society, attracting investment, developing the economy… they do NOT need nato. What they need is a Elliott Hess - to go after corrupt politicians. Being in the center of controversies between Russia and NATO is a dangerous spot.
