Re: Old Folk Portfolio ... Add On Buys

When the market is in a correction like we've seen the over the past couple of weeks, I like to add small purchases that make sizable drawdowns given in any one day. Since I don't know where a bottom will be established, or how long it'll take, I do want to be sure to take advantage of lower prices as they present better valuations and higher yields. I may not catch the bottom but I will average down into it. By investing small I'm not risky too much money in the event prices continue to fall.

I look for companies that drop in price by 4% or more on the day.

With this in mind, yesterday GIS dropped down more than 5% and GD dropped down more than 4%, thus I added to both positions today.

GIS - added 5 shares
GD - added 9 shares.

Next I looked for companies selling at a discount to fair value.

The following companies are all considered undervalued by Morningstar, CFRA, FAST Graphs and through my DCF Flow Model even when using a bear scenario, therefore they are eligible for larger sized positions. The larger positions will be smaller lots, the smaller positions larger lots while still selling at a discount to fair value.

With that in mind I added to the following companies:

These companies represent larger positions in the portfolio thus I added in smaller lots.

CM - 9 shares
GPC - 9 shares
RY - 10 shares
TD - 14 shares

These companies are smaller positions in the portfolio thus I wanted to build them quicker while they are still selling at a discount to fair value.

DHI - 63 shares
TJX - 84 shares

All of these purchases were made at the open.
