The Red Army kicked out the Nazis out of Lithuania in 1944 - and all the way until the mid-50’s there was an ongoing resistance. An armed insurgency. Stalin, at the height of his might - was unable to eradicate it, and his appointees and functionaries lived in fear for their lives. Eventually, the Soviets had to offer an amnesty.

Todays much “milder” Russians do not stand a chance. They could beat the militaries of the Baltic nations - but they would not be able to truly conquer them - even if it weren’t for NATO. Those days are gone.

Russia always tells us what they are going to do in advance ( I think).

To your knowledge have they said anything about reabsorbing the Baltic states? (I don't know the answer to that).
