Investor2: Do you know if anyone has announced layoffs so far? I can't recall any. Maybe BRKS? Also I'm trying to remember when did AMAT announce layoffs (temporary employees gone) last time? Was it in the Nov. '96 c.call? Or was it before? Looks like the time to have bought was when the BTB started turning up not necessarily the summer of '96. More like Sept. of '96 and Oct. of '96. S/t risks in hindsight were lower then. But I think it was in the Nov. call that they did announce layoffs? So maybe that was the indicator of the turning point. But their bookings had not yet turned up or maybe they had just started turning up? Where's my memory when I need it... The overall industry BTB appears to be still going down... And late Dec and Jan. looks to have been bad for industry orders... Only talking about the front-end guys here - suspect back-end is still quite strong... Plus the overall market appears to be strong... Then again Saddam...

<A comparison of today to the summer of 1996 doesn't seem like a good reason to hold off buying. Wasn't the summer of 1996 the time to buy?>

So was December or '97....hell this stuff has rallied 30% already!!
