The point is that you need a backup plan. You can't rely on PowerWall alone to keep the lights on, unless you think PowerWall is more reliable than the grid itself.

I suspect, however, that you won't really disconnect yourself from the grid. You probably won't draw any more power off of the grid, but you'll still need to be connected just in case something goes wrong.
