Membership in EU can be a mixed blessing.

Ask Poland about that. The EU is giving them the shaft for not opening their borders to invading hordes.

one of the reasons why Maidan was successful was the promise of EU membership. They made it difficult for a national economy to survive and do well without such membership. Whenever politicians talk about a trade or an economic / political arrangement, what they have in mind is *exclusion* of those who are NOT members.

This is a great point.
