I think Donald Trump would have taken seriously the Russian buildup on the Ukrainian border over several months. When the Russians presented their ultimatum, he would have recognized it as such. Maybe he would get Putin on the phone and discuss it. One thing he wouldn’t do - he wouldn’t be sleepwalking into the war and beyond. He would evaluate the issue - and address it. Very likely, he would be able to solve it in a way acceptable to all.
