A central-casting example of Davos Man is John Kerry, America’s jet-setting, deal-making, profiting secretary for the environment. Kerry was morally outraged and scandalized by Putin’s nineteenth-century invasion of Ukraine. Didn’t Putin know that such anachronistic efforts are not allowed or tolerated in the European theater? (The Middle East and Africa are still okay though…)
So, Davos men see Kerry as their archetypal example. That’s funny. But the point is - if you scratch a Davos man or a European man - underneath the veneer, they’re the same old Neanderthals. We are barely a blink of an eye away from the totally unrestrained brutality of WWII. And much of what happened since ain’t all that pretty either.

I’m not very optimistic at this point. What we are seeing shows that entire societies are easy to manipulate - and as a species, we are good at using our verbal ability at the service of our archaic emotions.

What a pile of moronic simpleton comic book caricature "thinking" that Guy Shepherd wrote.

He invented "19th century man" as the bad guy then started strutting and preening, girding his loins like 10th century man to conquer 19th century man.

His ability to model reality is hopeless. Our brains are not very good at it at the best of times but there's a very large Bell curve type distribution of ability.

Gradually over millennia the defective brains are windowed from the gene pool. Somehow, his has got through to now. As have all of ours. But he's determined to be eliminated and take hordes with him. Which they seem keen to be.
