The numbers I mentioned are from Wikipedia. But at this point the numbers of shooters are not what worries me. The Russians seriously feel that nato presence in Ukraine would mean no stability — but rather a virtually guaranteed future war. And that time it would no longer be a local war. It would be Russia - vs. the West, across a thin line. Again, it makes no difference what WE think. That’s what the Russians thinks. Makes it extremely dangerous.
