Yesterday I was wondering about the health issues in Ukraine due to the depleted uranium from tank shelling.

To my knowledge, the only depleted uranium we use is in bullets from anti-tank guns on the A-10. I was never in the fighter world so maybe they could load something similar in F-15 & F-16s but I don't think so.
Bombs are just iron casting with explosive inside unless they're specialty cluster munitions. At the time of those wars, they were antipersonnel so a bunch of little explosives scattering out to kill lots of people at once. Later, we did come up with anti-tank/truck clusters that might have depleted stuff but I don't know. Not sure.
We only use depleted uranium because it's super hard and can penetrate tank armor. It's overkill for anything else and is actually bad since it would go through softer stuff without doing much damage.
As for quantity. An A-10 spews a staggering amount of munitions in a short amount of time. They went wherever there were tanks to target. If they put tanks all over then we shot at them all over.
I would bet a lot of people brought some home as souvenirs also without knowing the danger exposing themselves and their families.

EDIT - I am only speaking to the air force side of things. I don't have a clue what the army uses. Tank to tank battles might be using depleted uranium also. I know they use a sabo round that penetrates then explodes but I don't know what the tip is made out of.
