Should the global oil trade all get tagged to gold held at central banks at current gold / oil valuations, that would mean
35,000 metric tons of gold at $2,000 per troy oz <=> 35M barrels (close-enough for government work) at $100 per barrel, or
35,000 m ton x 32,150 troy oz / m ton x $2,000 per troy oz, or $ 2.25 to power 12 of gold in vault, otoh
vs
35,000M barrels x $100 per barrel, or 3.5 to power 12 of oil trading
In such an equivalency setup, more or less, should oil go to 200 / barrel, gold might ...
assuming nothing else requires gold ...
not gas, coal, uranium, solar energy gear, food, .... corporate debt, sovereign bonds, sinking funds, derivative margin, ... fiat currency backing
