It's about power and control. You're right, very likely whoever steps in his shoes walks the same walk of Russian victimhood, being wronged by the world etc. and acts similarly. It's the same play dictators the world over have done time and time again. "The bad ______ is out to get them". Russia is like a big Mafia, another Mafia boss needs to take him down. With so many billionaire Oligarchs floating around, seems like one of them seeing their precious yachts, homes abroad and life-style change so dramatically would come up with a plan.

I really don’t want to talk about Putin. Only because the whole world keeps mouthing his name millions of times a day - it doesn’t mean I must too. ...you're copping out....you've been mouthing his name for weeks..................I'd guess he rationalizes the stuff he does as for the benefit of mother Russia.....a higher, more noble cause if you will........and probably most is.....but to suggest he is a religious man in light of some of the OTHER STUFF he does is nonsense..........Do you realize how many of his detractors / opponents / oligarchs / etc. wind up in prison or suddenly wake up dead one morning?.........it's way beyond coincidence......and most didn't deserve what they got. How can a low/mid level KGB apparatchik wind up leader of Russia (looks to be for life) within 8 years of the collapse of the Soviet Union?.....it took Hitler almost twice that time to achieve the same ...........He is a stone cold killer.....no doubt....could he have achieved what he has to date without being one?.....now that IS debatable given it IS Russia............but, if as you claim a potential successor would do the same, I'd guess he then would be every bit a stone cold killer as well and that characteristic would have to be heavily weighed in any dealings with him.
