generally a seriously religious man is guided by that religion
As part of his plan to rebuild the Russian Empire, he has supported the revival of the Orthodox church after 70+ years of communist suppression. I have no idea whether he believes or just recognized it as a useful tool for increasing his power. Wouldn't be the first politician to use religion for political means, won't be the last.

WOY, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Fcuk Putin. He is a sleight of hand - the media invented a devil who is the pronounced to be the only responsible party - and now, no one needs to understand anything beyond what they feed to people. In the meantime, if putin crocks today, there will be another boss tomorrow, conducting the same policies. And the day later he would be ancient history. An interesting question is - What explains those policies? But few people bother to stretch their brains that far. This sh*t is going to drive me to drink.
