Gary,

Thanks for the response. The reason I bring out the brokerage support is that I have the first hand experience with IDTC. IDTC is a very solid company and was being traded at around 16-17 when the Barrons included it in its cover story last August. The stock took off and hit 22 1/4 temporarily. It then gradually retreated to 16 3/4. At that time, H&Q came to the rescue and initiated the issue with a strong buy rating. The issue then took off and climbed to 25 1/4 amid a 33% earning surprise (sound familiar?). They then dipped to 20 or so and held extremely well during the tech retreat. Recently H&Q and the company initiated a roadshow and some good moves by the company promptly sent the issue to 30 (and the company just did a second offering). The insider told me that H&Q was very much responsible for the appreciation of price move.
The reason I bring this story to the table is that only three firms cover YURI and Alex Brown and Cowen are just very small firms and certainly not strong enough to attract the attention of big players. GS is another story. I personally did find their heavy involvement last week very strange. The whole week GS was basically on the bidding side and buying anything they can (They were also on the asking side several times). I don't believe that they are helping their customers covering their shorts... If GS loads up the issue for its own purpose, then their next move is an obvious strong buy rating or simply to put the issue on their recommended list. If that's the case, it will be easy for YURI to move up substantially near term and a 50-60% upside move after they announce another blowout quarter is not out of question.
The issue right now is if any of the big house comes out with a positive comment on the issue, YURI will enjoy a good ride up. And since we have discussed about its earnings potential this year, we really don't need to worry about its PE unless it hits above 40.

good luck,
larry

Gary,

I also forgot the mention that shorting covering also helped to move the price of IDTC up significantly. IDTC was enjoying a 1+ mm short interest this past Jan. 15th. IDTC is having about 10 mm stocks floating on the market. YURI has 8 mm floating, and the short issues are more than 2 mm. One of the reasons I believe that some of the big players will be interested in YURI is a moderate short squeeze is gonna easily push the issue up 5-10 points. And the big boys don't need to worry about an earning shortfall in the near term.

Hi Gary,

Further info on the competitive front for AAM's(from Paul Johnson's morning wire):

1. "3Com with its Onstream acquisition will be providing all of MCIs equipment. Mci, who already has (sic) 100 customer sites lined up and waiting for the service, is expected to offer 4 T1 IMA service at a 20% cheaper rate than 4 separate T1 leased lines."

2. "Brooks Fiber (aka Worldcom) is using Ascend's Sahara gear. While we are not sure of the number of Sahara boxes Brooks has deployed, we do know that Ascend has been shipping the Sahara equipment since December and has shipped roughly 300-400 units."

Note-the Sahara gear would be OEM's by Ascend from GDC, right? Anyway, it seems like there is even more competition in the offing than either of us thought originally (I discounted Cisco, you poo-pooed the above pair), and it doesn't sound like the competition is that far off.
