It was a factor, for sure, but it probably would have been cheaper to build a pumped water supply line than to launch a war. The Russians already built a bridge over to Crimea for access. Been pretty dry over there, from what I've read. Must be Climate Change. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for that warming...

Our governor once wanted to build a water pipeline from Alaska to California. Sitka was once in talks to sell it by the tankerload to the Saudis. Maybe the Russians will want Sitka as their western territorial capital again, for the water? I read that the big reason they sold Alaska was because the ice business for supplying the west coast became unnecessary after the advent of ammonia refrigerants. Reminds me of the Mosquito Coast movie with Harrison Ford.
