I really see very little reason for accumulation of foreign currency reserves after what sanctions did to the Russian central bank. There is no purpose now if a hostile foreign power confiscates the reserves of a central bank at will.
They can do the gold standard instead? What’s the alternative? I’d move into fully gold backed ruble if I were them. Alternatively ruble can be tied to a barrel of oil.
