I heard McCarthy had written a screenplay, never knew it was made into a movie until now. There have been at least two attempts at making Blood Meridian into a movie. I think Ridley Scott tried, and gave up. Like you say, his writing style doesn't translate well. I thought he might have modified technique to accommodate the screen, he must not have done that.

Only time I can think of that the movie was better than the book is The Milagro Beanfield War. The author, being a bit of an ideologue, lacked a sense of humor. Great story, though. The moviemaker managed to inject some humor.
