According to the current status of the investigation, a 48-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries from several stab wounds and at least two other men aged 28 and 48 suffered minor injuries. A police officer who was in the immediate vicinity of a traffic accident scene immediately rushed to help. He was only able to stop the attack by using his firearm and fired several shots. Both the attacker and the injured persons are receiving medical treatment. No information can be given at this time about the specific severity of the injuries. The background to the motive is not yet known and is the subject of the investigation. The Mainz Criminal Investigation Department, in close cooperation with the Mainz Public Prosecutor’s Office, is investigating an attempted homicide. The attacker is being guarded in the hospital by police forces.
