Also, in my practice, the percentage of patients on PIs, has never been very high. I found years ago (even before 3TC), that other measures worked very well (albeit expensive). We gave patients infusions with high dose IVIG, Vit C, Leukovorin, MVI-12, and IM Injections of Vit B12, and Testosterone. And in the past 5 years I have only had about 3 patients die per year, and my hospitalization rate, has been the lowest in Dade County. (Until we had to stop the infussions in Nov, because of a national shortage, and since December my admission rate has gone up more than 300%.
The point is, nobody has all the answers yet. As clinicians we can only offer the bast available treatment at the present time. And today, that includes the use of PI's.
