In this respect, today's China seems fairly capitalistic.
Much of the economy is still state owned enterprises. Their economic system is a strange blend of Marx and Mussolini

They allow free-ish enterprise, but ban private ownership of property. And anyone too successful is disappeared.

Just enough slack in control to allow growth. But the CCP is really riding the tiger.
