D., I’m not saying they’re a squeaky clean ideal of some sort. I’m just saying they managed to bring many hundreds of millions out of deep, hopeless poverty. Which is also why I don’t believe they’re really marxists. I think they stick to the old formulas in order to keep stability. The exact language doesn’t really matter to an authoritarian system, for as long as things are stable and moving along. China is an empire that spent centuries fighting internal battles. So, to them stability is well worth some compromises.
