I try to initiate positions in what Stan Weinstein calls stage 1 stocks, where the stocks are basing out after a big decline and do not decline on bad news any longer. I then will add to my positions at the outset of stage 2 where the stock begins its advance.

Once the good news is already priced in, I look to reduce and/or sell completely.
