I have no idea how International Law treats the subject of sanctions. Can a small, poor country apply sanctions against a superpower? Or, is it that only the rich and the mighty can police and punish all others? I think it works something like this. When one country invades another sovereign country, without warning, and indiscriminately kills innocent civilians by the thousands, bombs cities and towns and demands the land as their own, they are like criminals who give up their rights under International Law. Russia's reaction toward sanctions are limited, unless you're suggesting they are so crazed they would launch a nuclear first strike against the planet? I suppose they could stop pumping petrochemicals to Europe, but that would hurt both the European economy and Russia. Then can end the sanctions tomorrow, just leave. Stop the invasion, call it a day and offer war reparations.
