Novell Japan Sets Open Pricing, Large-Scale Licensing
February 9, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Novell Japan Ltd. announced an open-pricing system and large-scale licensing program called Novell Customer Connections. Both are effective as of Feb. 1.

The pricing system applies to about 3,000 Japanese versions of Novell products.

Novell Japan said Japan is the first country where it introduced the open-pricing system. This decision was made because the Japanese market is more price-sensitive than the United States and European markets at the time of product introduction.

Novell Japan expects the market price system to allow more flexible OEM price setting.

The Novell Customer Connections program provides license sales and technical support services for businesses that deal with large-scale software development, operation and management.

The program consists of a Volume License Agreement, Corporate License Agreement and Master License Agreement.

Parent company Novell Inc. of the United States started a service similar to Novell Customer Connections two years ago in the United States and Europe. It has experience servicing 2,000 Corporate License Agreements and 200 Master License Agreements worldwide.

Novell Japan is projecting annual sales of about 100 Corporate License Agreements and 10 Master License Agreements in Japan.
