Rarebird, The whole system of the USA is based on preserving Freedom, individual liberties and Democratic Institutions, something that Trump had no respect for. I know it's hard, but forget Trump for a minute. Our system of government is a democratic republic. Free elections are a key part of that system, but not the only part since a direct democracy can easily implement a "tyranny of the majority." That also explains why our president is elected via the Electoral College instead of popular vote. Something to consider the next time a Democrat proposes getting rid of the Electoral College.
