I called South Coast Air Quality Management District and talked to Mr. Liu and he stated that although there is a movement against MTBE they are awaiting a report from the University of California that is researching this issue. The report is due out within a few months. Considering the amount of research necesssary for AQMD to make a decision it could well take a while.

As far as the DF-144 octane enhancer .vs. MTBE as a viable alternative, he said that he hadn't heard of this specific item and that there are many options available. More specifically they are requesting feedback from the oil companies to provide them other resources.

If Arcon aggressively markets to these companies there is a strong chance to make DF-144 THE substitute. Regardless the oil companies have the ear of these types of agencies and they first need to be sold on DF-144. Based on all the advantages over MTBE it would seem the oil companies would welcome DF-144.

I'm still awaiting a response on from the Alternative Fuels Data Center.

Enjoy.
