Optibase Releases Key Component of Networked Video Strategy

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 1998--

Video streaming solution targets corporate Intranets

At the IP Multicast Summit, Optibase today released technology that will enable companies to take advantage of
next-generation Intranets with the release of version 2.5 of its MPEG ComMotion UDP digital video transmission solution.
MPEG ComMotion UDP 2.5 encodes and sends high quality MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams in real-time over a broad
range of standard TCP/IP networks. The system generates high-quality video streams for use in corporate communications,
education, training and surveillance. These streams can be broadcast, unicast and multicast across the enterprise without the
need for specialized network infrastructure.

MPEG ComMotion UDP 2.5 offers several new features that greatly enhance networked video communications including
support for Silicon Graphics Inc. WebFORCE Media Base video server and the Oracle Video Server. Oracle Video Server
options can be selected from within the MPEG ComMotion UDP 2.5 interface for seamless video encoding directly to the
server, and the generation of tagging files used to facilitate fast random access. In addition, MPEG ComMotion UDP 2.5 now
supports ActiveMovie playback, enabling PC users to decode MPEG-1 video to VGA monitors with a software decoder.
MPEG ComMotion UDP 2.5 also supports multiple encoders operating in the same PC allowing transmission of multiple
video streams simultaneously from a single IP multicast server.

"MPEG ComMotion UDP is an important milestone in the creation of the multimedia-enabled corporate Intranet because it
leverages existing network infrastructure and uses open systems encoding and transport technologies," said Brian Dean,
product manager at Optibase, Inc. "The broadcast options of ComMotion UDP enable network administrators to target and
customize video transmissions to a single PC desktop, or to a group of desktops, or to the entire enterprise." MPEG
ComMotion is priced based on license options and number of network seats and is available now through Optibase dealers
and resellers worldwide.

Optibase is a global leader in MPEG hardware and software technology. With offices in the United States, U.K. and Israel,
Optibase sells a complete range of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoders and decoders through a worldwide network of
distributors, authorized resellers, system integrators and OEM partners. For more information contact: Optibase, Inc., 3031
