On The Beach - Neville Shute - 1957. Movie came out in '59.

Excellent book and movie. I read it in my teens.

I think we are closer today to the point of using nuclear devices for war purposes than we’ve been at any time since August 1945.
Reading 2034, about WWIII.

The book demonstrates how easily a conflict can come about and then escalate into a nuclear confrontation.

Pretty good read.

That would suit me, it’s likely that NZ and Oz may be left alone.

But Putin was insulted by Oz PM Tony Abbott who threatened to physically "shirt-front" Putin during an international conference in Brisbane (G20 or something).

Putin brought along a couple of warships which parked just off the coast. Abbott wisely kept his hands to himself.

Oz is very active in the attack on Russia.

So I guess Russia is more likely to do a demonstration atomic bomb on OZ than USA. It would give the message without a direct attack on USA.

Similarly for Aotearoa-Zimbabwe. Jacinda and co are flat out virtue signalling how bad Putin is, glory to Ukrsine, down with Russia, bans and 35% tariff just introduced. A little atomic bomb at Devonport, Auckland, would destroy the whole NZ navy and give a good message to Oz, USA, UK, Canada, UK, France, Germany etc.

I suggest Putin starts with us = a nice, small, non-critical, easy, far away, target, but would seriously give the needed message. It might look a bit like shooting a harmless cute child though, so that might be a blunder. Murdering innocents tends to rile people up.

Maybe it would be better to target Oz, which China would like as Oz has been annoying China quite a lot.

Maybe naval Harbour in Darwin for example. Google maps shows an aircraft carrier and a couple of big warships. So maybe worthwhile if they are there.

Evolutionarily, survival of the fittest etc, Darwin would be well named. Darwin's stolen notebooks have just been returned, in good condition. Darwin Awards. I'd prefer to not be the target.

Australia, UK, USA have recently formed a military gang. AUKUS.
