perhaps China is shopping for the next variant should the variant be less costly to lives as opposed to economy

OTOH, should the next variant be more costly, China might well hold out and be alone longer, waiting for the next-next, whereas everyone ex-China is well committed to a hopefully end-of-Covid-as-pandemic outcome

let's hope it all works out

I observe that the lives of the young must continue and not social-distanced, and so, best that vaccines and cures work
