I remember the discussion Rust, Franz, and I had. We didn't continue to my chagrin because of subscriber numbers distraction but also because there was and is a paucity of information. The company is mum. We get tidbits now and then usually in ancillary areas like the Hotel hookup.

Is ATHM going after mom and pop or after T1 or both or neither?

I don't believe DSL will be a major player in world wide web commerce. It just doesn't have QoS, speed, and scalability like cable does. You won't believe this until you sit down to a box loaded with the best DSL implementation and do the same with ATHM cable. Assuming this isn't an unwarranted assumption, we'll make it. So what then is the constraint? Wire pass?

If a building has 50 businesses it can be wired as a local loop of houses. Most business buildings have wire closets and various wires running through the building. Pulling HFC isn't a big thing especially if you're talking about yields of say $200/termination/mo. Then the 10 mbps basic service/termination yields a maximum basic service potential of $10k/mo/building. But there is load trouble on the backbone. That's where the costs rise. ATHM does 155 ATM and this building has that feed more than maxed. In any event if businesses have to have it because that's how the buying public is coming in, the wire will be pulled and the back will be upped.

As you can see, just like during 780-790, I'm having trouble. Franz, where are you? Your summary captures the essence though. This is another reason why it is difficult to analyze the potential of this company.
