It really defies belief as to what these clowns are willing to say. First, the atrocities in towns like Bucha were 'fake'. Now, they apparently are 'real', but were caused by the British.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his closest ally, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, unveiled a new theory on Tuesday about who was to blame for the murders, rapes and torture of hundreds of civilians in Bucha, Ukraine while the town was occupied by Russian troops.

It was not, they insisted, the Russian soldiers who witnesses, satellite imagery and forensic evidence all suggest went on a monthlong rampage of looting and killing.

The real culprits, Lukashenko claimed without evidence, were British operatives who conducted a “psychological special operation” in the leafy suburb of Kyiv.

Lukashenko and Putin spoke during a carefully orchestrated news conference at a space launch facility in Vostochny, in Russia’s Far East. It was Putin’s first public appearance outside of Moscow since Russia launched its brutal Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Lukashenko said he and Putin discussed in detail “the psychological special operation in Bucha carried out by the British.”

The Belarusian autocrat then told reporters that the Russian Federal Security Bureau would provide them with materials to back up his seemingly absurd claim.

“If you need addresses, passports, license numbers and brands, on which date they arrived in Bucha, and how they did it, then the FSB can provide these materials,” Lukashenko said, according to an NBC translation of his remarks.

Putin said that Lukashenko had given him “papers” on the murders in Bucha that he gave to the FSB.

“How, who came to that settlement, and created conditions to organize this provocation and fake, the FSB have relevant intercepts,” he told reporters.

The British Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday on Lukashenko’s allegations.

Putin has said before that the deaths in Bucha were “fake,” and the Kremlin insists the hundreds of bodies discovered were staged there.

But Tuesday appeared to be the first time that Belarus and the Russian security services have both helped promote the claim that Great Britain was the secret power behind the conspiracy.

Russian troops took control of scores of towns like Bucha in northern Ukraine during the first weeks of their failed drive to take the capital, Kyiv. When it became obvious the Kremlin could not capture the city, Russian troops withdrew, leaving a trail of carnage and destruction in their wake.

In Bucha alone, more than 400 civilians have been found dead since the Russians withdrew, many of them with marks of execution, rape and torture. Almost overnight, an international consortium to document alleged war crimes came together and more than a dozen countries are assisting in the process.

Speaking in Vostochny, Putin used both whataboutism and misinformation to try to shift attention away from Russian soldiers’ atrocities.

At one point, he complained that NATO had also caused the death of civilians in combat, suggesting Western outrage at Russia over civilian deaths in Bucha was hypocritical.

Then he compared Bucha to cities in Syria where Russian backed President Bashar al Assad used chemical weapons during a civil war in 2013 and later accused rebels of having gassed their own supporters in order to frame Assad.

As Putin and Lukashenko spun elaborate conspiracies to try to explain away the atrocities coming out of Syria, the international community this week hardened its resolve as more and more evidence emerged of likely war crimes by Russian troops.

Hours after Putin and Lukashenko’s meeting and their bizarre claims about British agents, President Joe Biden said this same evidence looked to him like something worse than isolated war crimes -- it looked like genocide.

“I called it genocide because it has become clearer and clearer that Putin is just trying to wipe out the idea of even being able to be Ukrainian,” Biden said late Tuesday evening.

“The evidence is mounting. It looks different than last week. More evidence is coming out literally of the horrible things that the Russians have done in Ukraine,” he said.

Chemical weapons = a joke. I'm not even going to bother looking at it. In Syria there were supposed chemical weapons attacks which were obvious bullshit. Some jihadists threw around some swimming pool cleaner or something and made silly videos of washing people to save them. Pathetic acting.

The Bucha and other atrocities are similarly pathetic propaganda.

On the other hand, I dare say Russian prisoners and maybe "saboteurs" have been tortured and killed by Azovs and others. It might be that there were some civilian deaths caused by Russian military and I guess some crimes too. Plenty of horrible people are in military activity and they love a good excuse.

I've watched video of USA military gleefully shooting people and there are swarms of USA crimes, some of which were perpetrated on prisoners in actual prisons such as Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo or via rendition etc. Then there were My Lai and all the other barbarities in Vietnam and since. And before. The best WMDs were of course used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Not to mention Dresden, Tokyo and a lot more besides.

The total dead in Ukraine is trivial, on both sides and including civilians. It's not even up to a million. Not even 100,000. Collecting bodies in Bucha was one here, another way over there. Really very few even if they were largely wanton murder of civilians by Russian troops, which might or might not be the case.

How about the approximately 10,000 killed in eastern Ukraine from 2014? Have you got a count of civilians killed by Azovs for example.

The best thing to do is stop the shooting now and agree to what I have written and which seems to be the obvious outcome which swarms of reasonable people understand as being a good idea. But of course the USA bosses and Euroserf bosses don't want peace. They want war and lots of it. Zelensky doesn't want peace either because he could have it tomorrow - just agree to Crimea remaing part of Russia, Donbass areas having Brexit referenda and Scottish independence votes to see what the locals want to do.

USA is the guilty party in the whole horror. Zelensky and Ukrainians in the west are complicit and paid big bribes to Hunter and Joe10% and no doubt Lindsay Graham and John McCain who were over there getting the war going.

Putin and Russia just said no more and no you can't have Crimea back and kick us out of our historical property. Any idiot could see they would not tolerate continued attacks.

I think Putin and Russia should start a nuclear war now rather than have another soldier killed. Russia cannot win a conventional war but can hold the line by using nuclear weapons and daring the crazed Yanks to go full scale deflection. All that Russia wants is what they asked for all along. But as they have said, the Americans don't have a listen mode and ignored them and continued loading up.

It would be much better to not have war and there's no need for it.

The idea as plenty of expressed [because they think they are great mind readers but they are in fact morons] that Russia in general and Putin in particular wants to retake Europe and rebuild the USSR across Europe is absurd. Russia has not got the people, the economy, the military or any reason to try to do so. The reason they are accused of it is so that the horrible attacks and war can continue. Lots of Americans and Euroserfs like you believe the propaganda so are keen on more war.

England went Brexit, Scotland is half independent but voted to stay in UK, Ireland went independent a century ago, northern Ireland has stayed in UK, Serbia and all those Yugoslav countries went their own way, Quebec voted to stay in Canada. Voting is much better than warring. Some civilized people are in favour of democratic process. Some such as people right here in Lindy's discussion and in USA USA USA and Eurostan are not in favour of democracy.

PS: I'm more concerned by biological weapons such as covid 19 and no doubt others that have been developed, in a good cause of course, with a view to developing vaccines against what might naturally occur if a bat, pangolin and human ended up with a recombined sars virus or H5N1 with 70% mortality. Chemical weapons are so last century - my grandmother's brother was gassed in WWI and fortunately survived. Chemical weapons are not much use really. Other than for propaganda or as burning phosphorus etc, or napalm [as used by USA]. But as clouds of poison they aren't very good. A little drone, or those shoulder launched rockets are much more effective and don't blow back upwind or generally get the wrong target.

Sodium hypochlorite etc are silly.

Better chemical warfare is individually applied such as Russia used to kill Skripals = novichok, Litvinenko = polonium 210, Navalny = novichok in his undies, dioxin in Yushchenko, lead in high speed bullet form in various opponents, fentanyl in the Moscow theatre hostage crisis. And even Putin's mentor back in the day who was poisoned a couple of days after returning from Switzerland I think it was. So I don't pretend that poison is not in Putin's, Russia's or USA's methods. Putin sure is a vicious bastard. But he's in good company with Bolton, McCain, Zbig, Biden, and many others who love their power.
