Florida is a breath of fresh air. Especially since covid - but for other reasons as well. I know some Dems who used to comment for a while that our Governor has abandoned his senses. Not anymore. Grudging respect.

I’d say, along A1A it very seldom gets uncomfortably hot. Looking for a place, I’d be looking to have southern or eastern exposure - or both - that’s where the predominant winds come from in the Summer. No need to be afraid of the Southern exposure - in the summer the sun is almost straight up. You get a lot more sun if your windows face East or West. But even that is not a big problem.

Thanks for your nuke winter comment. I have no way to evaluate those theories. Just repeating what others print. Maybe it’s really worth keeping some food and water.

The Iraqis lit all the oil wells on fire and demonstrated there is little impact from all the soot.
The soot from the oil field fires did not reach very high altitudes and thus stayed relatively local. There are documented cases of a single volcano lowering global temperatures for a year or more. I suspect that is a better analogy.

Personally, I'd rather not find out which theory is correct.

Florida. Near the coastline provides food source. Teach a man to fish thing.

Spent decades fishing coastlines, living and surf fishing in several states. Tides, weather and knowledge with a high energy level can produce plenty of quality, high protein table fare. With ideal conditions, rare to come home with less than 20lbs. of fillets.

Night fishing and early morning with tides coming in fill the freezer in five trips. Sheep Head, Small black drum, black tip, croaker considered "trash fish" by white collar. The majority of them don't even know what they are eating and if they do, "please pass the salt". I've served enough food and wine to know at dinner engagements. Tell them it's Mahi-mahi and after the second glass, give them the cheap stuff.

Kite flying bait offshore, Ocean Kayak dropping off lines past the third sandbar. Free floating live bait 120 yds. off the beach. People be surprised how many species of desirable, offshore fish just off the beach. Much to master but it beats raising rabbits or chickens ten fold.

Learning to throw a cast net a must. I haven't purchased bait since the 70's. Knowing when, I have filled coolers with Pompano as the sun came up. All family learned this starting age of 6. By 12, including the girls, always caught more fish than anyone. Catch, clean, fillet with electric knife and bag within minutes.

I carried a 7' net in my vehicle most of my life along with my favorite rod and reel. Can't imagine the number of times I stopped off during my travels and caught dinner.

Teaching the young how to feed themselves is a good thing. Buying them a "new" smartphone is not.
