This has been America's policy since the end of WW2. Nothing new or "provocative" about it from Brz. The guy is a broken fiddle.

There was an earlier "great game" between Russia vs Great Britain plus France... sometimes. First Russia pushed south to envelope the Ottomans. Result: the Crimean War. Then they pushed east taking all of Mongolia/Manchuria/North China and even Northern Korea ...and in Afghanistan, so the English believed , threatened "their"India.

When the plucky Japanese defeated them in 1903-1905, the English quickly settled their Asian issues with the Russians who then developed a "Pan Slavism"... that, together with the irredentism of the French, led to WW I.
