"Survive," meaning not everything and everyone would be gone. 95% gone leaves 5 million people. Which Countries Have Nuclear Weapons?Russia — 6,257 (1,458 active, 3039 available, 1,760 retired)United States — 5,550 (1,389 active, 2,361 available, 1,800 retired) China — 350 available (actively expanding nuclear arsenal) France — 290 available United Kingdom — 225 available Pakistan — 165 available India — 156 available Israel — 90 available North Korea — 40-50 available (estimated)Since atomic bombs range from little to 20 megaton [near enough for nearly all], with a megaton being common, even if all incomings are perfectly spaced and all successfully explode and all possible nukes are delivered, that leaves a lot of area not destroyed. 1 megaton eliminates only 10 km radius and not even that if hiding in bunkers or pretty tough structures. Spreading out is obviously the way to survive, or have a nice bunker as we stayed in once in Geneva. The bunker we stayed in had many huge rooms with bunks 3 high, both sides of each room, 1 metre wide, edge to edge so about 120 people per room. I guess 4000 people could squeeze in, taking turns sleeping on the bunks. Mass showers, bulk toilets. Nothing else I recall. Guess they had some food stash place, and air supply pump plus filters, and sewerage from showers/toilets. We were there only overnight. We were given a whole huge room to ourselves because we were a family with 4 children. It was great, being Swiss. Clean, safe, wonderful. It had a huge thick door [about a foot thick, obviously very blast resistant]. Even with full-scale nuclear war with all bombs delivered, huge numbers of rural people will survive the initial onslaught. Of course food supplies and supplies of everything else would stop immediately. So local subsistence agricultural and farming living would be the survival mode. No more Made in China. USA would have much less survival as over double the population on half the area. So quarter the survival. And probably more living in cities which would be primary targets. Euroserfs would be a target-rich environment with 1.5 times the USA population in half the area. China would be even better with 3 x the Euroserf crowding, especially in coastal regions. I guess nobody is laughing at Preppers now. A redeeming feature of DementiaJoe10% is that he seems to be one of the Yanks least inclined to get into World War III and is refusing to consider sending anything or anybody to Ukraine other than regular mlitary supplies. Maybe Biden was imprinted at a young age with the undesirable prospects of nuclear war and it's all he can remember. That gives a glimmer of hope. But plenty of Yanks are crazed for war, foaming at the mouth, wanting to show Putin who is boss and who the Good Guys are = God on Their Side. I know nuclear war is supposed to be unthinkable, but thinking about it a bit is a good idea. I guess a lot of the atomic bombs would be directed at opposition atomic bomb locations, maybe 2 or 3 per location to ensure getting through against rocket defences. Maybe the civilian populations would be eliminated in cities and towns with large areas of countryside untouched [apart from fallout, soot, dust]. As Chernobyl showed, it takes a LOT of radioactive dust to make a place totally uninhabitable. Mqurice
