It really is, although it will be poo-pooed by the masses. How we get from here to there is pretty key to plot. But as Lane mentioned today, people are tired of the noise, and mostly tuned out. The left is chasing the shiny object of Musk trying to stop the bleeding, so there's that. But overall, I see few people, left or right, having any interest in it. Sort of weird to me. My (adult) kids couldn't care less about it. My son, who used to be very politically aware, has just said to hell with it all. My daughter never paid that much attention, but has the best of intentions. It leads me to question just how practical democracy is at scale. I don't truth any politicians with re-making American democracy, yet, it looks to be in its death throes.
