It eludes me only because... NO ONE ATTACKED RUSSIA.... EVER... in the current reality. Russia's "little green men" seeking to extend Russia's borders.... Russia thinking they can brow beat neighbors and take territory from them a bite at a time, and keep it "below threshold" is the origin... And, your own advocacy... fosters that fiction that Russia has some RIGHT to dictate or manage its neighbors affairs... and take the occasional bite out of them... as the mood strikes... Russia doesn't have a right to a "sphere of influence"... that allows them to...etc., etc. The reality is... Ukraine is NOT WILLING to allow it to continue... and, in spite of western appeasement of Russian's tendencies to abuse others... the long abused not suffering it any longer... is a fact that disrupts BOTH SIDES planning and expectations... Russia has mismanaged their opportunities... by seeking to revert to the creation of a Russian empire circa pre-20th century ruels... that CAN'T EXIST anymore under the changed realty that we have... Russia's war on modernity... can't succeed...
