John Galt is in Asia building telephone networks, in Latin America, re-building copper mines with Francisco, and soon, will be in Africa to assist Hank to develop new and more amazing metal alloys to be used in unthinkable uses to develop the infrastructure of an entire continent, and in the process, profit immensely.
These are great days we live in, however still dangerous, as we speak, there is a monumental battle in this country, unknown to the majority who suffers of chronic Deficit Attention Disorder (DAD), therefore can not keep up with the "going ons".
While in America (the US), the religious right is in the process of attempting to take control of the Senate, House of Representatives and indeed the Presidency. If they succeed, 13th century Persia will seem like a "liberal" country as opposed to what will happen here. The return of the inquisition will be the accepted form of "ideal government". I hope they fail, in the best interest of everyone.
Otherwise, the thought of this country breaking apart in four (the east, the south, the mid-west and the west coast), could be a very real probability. To be sure, I hope they fail, and I hope I am wrong in this consideration.
Please do not take this lightly, America (last time I checked), is inhabited by human beings, subject to the same emotions as any other part of the world, and that is precisely what has me worried. This country is not immune to the same human feelings.
The Constitution (and Bill of Rights), has allowed this country for the last 200 plus years, to prosper like no other country in the world. If you break this document apart, you are naked to the whims of one or other specific group that may succeed in the political rat race. Now, religion can cause very ugly wars (are there any other type of wars ?), simply think in terms of Northern Ireland, the mid-east (or so called "sacred" land), not to mention the crusades etc. etc.
I fail to understand why these idiotic zealots can not come up with some kind of "deal" instead of fighting themselves into extinction. It has been said, that a bad deal is better than a "good" battle, yes?
John Galt must take control of the imagination of the entrepreneur and his/her risk capital to further advance American industry, technology and true freedom as it was written in the Constitution of this country and protected by the Bill of Rights.
Incredibly ironic, the development or modernization of the infrastructure of the rest of the world is where the success of risk capital may lie, albeit not WITHOUT RISK. At the same time, companies like FTEL, based in the US, but NOT tied to the US commercial market only, will enjoy the best of both worlds, access to capital in the best of markets, at the same time possible development of commercial markets in the entire world.
The successful entrepreneur will have to figure out the proper formula and balance so as to be successful enough to attract Capital and at the same time be bold enough (and knowledgeable), to take the cutting edge technology to where one can maximize the creation of value (as in shareholder's).
In the US, the fight for the telephone market will indeed be fierce, the $.05/$.10 per minute call etc. will surely keep things tight. However, international calls are a different matter, it has been well documented on this board the different pricing levels between the US and other countries. But the Internet can do more things than the plain telephone. The developing technology will determine possible new sources of revenue and convenience of usage.
The Internet will allow John Galt to realize the dream of true Laissez Faire Capitalism, and the US will be the main benefactor, provided the government is kept in check. Digital cash, encryption, speed in communication, and the entrepreneurial spirit will make this environment possible.
If the government attempts to continue to exercise undue control over the entrepreneur, this control will force him ,(eventually), to go offshore. Not in all instances, it will be a case by case and not in all industries.
But the capital markets, could very feasibly be a perfect example, we shall find out as time passes.
