I recall the silver Libertads were tied to the price of silver, at least I assume so because they always seemed to be recalculating things at the Electra store when I was buying.

In Canada you can buy a one ounce gold coin but it isn't tied to the price of gold.

We wandered into a silver mining operation near this beautiful resort en.sierralagoresort.com I asked if we could take a few samples of the ore they were mining as a souvenir, we assayed later and it was running close to a thousand grams a ton silver.
