Not sure I can be of much help. Putin always had a complicated relationship with Russia's super rich. Personally, I suspect, he used them to get the economy going. Many of those people are very talented businessmen, and managed to put together empires having started with nothing. Over time, things became more complicated - those super rich individuals became too powerful - and Putin and his elites didn’t like that.

I’ve never heard of this particular person in that article. So, what can I say. There could be any number of reasons for what happened to him. Your guess is as good as mine.
