Even i-node agrees that n-95 masks work, when used as directed. It is reasonable to conclude that they save lives. It is reasonable to believe that it's so and act accordingly. That they save lives, though, maybe not yet quite a fact.

But i-node can understand that they do more damage than good when they are abused, when we know the population at-large will not do it correctly. We don't change them as needed, we don't put them on correctly, or remote them, we don't store them property, and who-knows-what-else. While intuitively, N-95 respirators should work better, there is not any proof they do AFAIK. It is a matter of whether we will tolerate them based on mere intuition. Many will, and will end up sick anyway. The science matters.
